If you can feel me here Then I will feel you there I hope you'll always count on me to offer you a ride This might feel a little different at first until you get the hang of it all, and you will All we need Is no more hurt A chance to fall in love with the world without everything getting worse This might feel a little different at first until you get the hang of it all, and you will You might feel a little different at first until you get the hang of it all And you will

Leg 03:19
Let go of my leg, you're pulling way too hard Let go of my head, you're pulling me apart Let go of my hand, you're squeezing way too tight Let go of my heart, 'cause I don't want you It's not love, it's a trauma bond Come out, come out wherever you are You can't stand up, you can't shut up, you're pushing way too hard Go ahead and take my hand, jump off again But I won't be there when you land this time It's not love, it's a trauma bond It's not love You can't scare me half to death with your words Are you amunitionless? You never scared me when you lied 'cause I know where you like to hide I know where you like to hide... It's not love

Remember everything you wanted Remember how it played an active role Keep telling yourself that you’re honest And watch it turn into an obstacle I get the feeling that you’re onto something Maybe a change will make the mundane seem insane Just hang the sign on the door! I’d rather UFO sequester Than have to live without a meaningful Impressionistic obligation One part nostalgia, one good variable I might be suffocating; you just keep on bifurcating I can’t take that thought anymore I get the feeling that you’re onto something Maybe a change will make the mundane seem insane Just hang the sign on the door! A mix of tears from love, not hate Beautiful stars come face-to-face Are men from Mars, or outer space? I get the feeling that you’re onto something Maybe a change will make the mundane seem insane Just hang the sign on the door!

Made my way to the bar I had no sense of who you were Walked up to you, said hi, and offered you a drink You looked at me with one eye and said, "I think so" So, tell me about, you're life up 'til now You're a teacher of math and a tender of bar I'm a wannabe musician and a faux rock star Time how it flies I could not cut away from your eyes And your hand, as it squeezed the both of mine I asked you out on a date, and you said that's fine This is how we move on...

More Pills 03:11
A note A word A jab You’re hurt I’m feeling what you want me to A dig A swerve A hard truth It hurts I’m feeling what you want me to That I can’t stand you is just not true You hit Below Gaslit A knockout blow I’m feeling what you want me to The crush The guilt Mistake More pills I’m feeling what you want me to That I can’t stand you is just not true I don’t have the kind of energy to dedicate to saving you from your damn mind, all the time Did you not think that what you meant to do would end us too? Every teardrop, angry ear prop Settle down Turn around It’s not your turn So, turn around Settle down

Intruder 01:55
Tell me I’m wrong and I’ll leave you alone I am not him; you are no clone Look at the bright side, I’m still on your side Tell me again what it is that you see A piece of your soul tangled up and not free I’m on the outside, how can it be me? I tried to heal you, you watch me bleed

The swell of the ocean, on the surface, a swirl A shimmer in the sun, and suddenly it’s gone The round of the moon disappearing in blue As I open my eyes, out flow the tears Down, down, down, down, down, down, Down goes our love Always down, down, down, down, down, down Drowned in our love And I think that I know where you’re getting it from The rebel in you coming undone No soul, peace of mind, a penny for your thoughts Don’t dare to move, make me someone I’m not I’ve been all over, you’ve been a pain in my heart And I think that I know where you’re getting it from The rebel in you coming undone Down, down, down, down, down, down, Down goes our love

about

"You Are No Clone" is a collection of recordings made remotely between 2021 & 2023; another product of our weekly virtual meetings, which we began early in the pandemic. This release, plus "Emergency!", and "Feel Good Everywhere", share a similar remote creation process.

"Hang of it All", "Intruder", and "How We Move On" evolved from voice memos recorded as I was writing them in my empty apartment in Quito, Ecuador. In a way, you're hearing these three songs as they were being conceived, lyrics and all. I recorded these voice memos while in the process of moving back to the U.S. My nephew Xavi lent me his acoustic guitar. (My instruments were already Stateside.) I originally envisioned someone else singing lead on "Intruder". In the end, we settled on a combination of my main vocal with harmonies by J.J. and SPOUSE co-founder Alisha Goldblatt. And when Liz uploaded her ghostly synths for us to hear... yep, yes, yes.

"Leg" is one of the earliest SPOUSE songs, demoed circa 1993 or 1994. J.J. supplied the drums before he'd ever heard the song. When I listened to the beat, it immediately reminded me of the chords, tempo, and rhythm of "Leg". The melody and lyrics shot back to me. I layered a couple of guitars over the drums and, lo and behold, they fit, and suddenly there was a chance to revive this long-lost tune.

"Not Caving In" is the tune that perhaps best exemplifies our remote recording process. It started with a guitar idea that Dan proposed in March of 2021, and we collectively tweaked and massaged the rest of the instrumentation and vocal arrangement into existence, reaching the mixing stage in April of 2023. "More Pills" followed a similar, though shorter, trajectory. Having a tune with two bridge sections is kind of new for us, and why not? The song's title recalls the tune "Pill" from the Nuclear Waste Management Club album. This is intentional, though the song itself bears no sonic similarity.

Finally, "The Rebel in You" is a tune that I began writing for ASJ (A Severe Joy), but when I played the demo at a virtual SPOUSE meeting one day, the reaction was immediately positive, and the crew got to work on it. The tune indeed benefited from everyone's collaboration and contributions (the result eclipses the demo, in my opinion).

There are many more tunes in various stages of development. Maybe one day we'll complete those too.

Thanks for your continued support,

SPOUSE appreciates you.
